MINOCQUA POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONSE TO COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS)

The Minocqua Police Department is closely monitoring the situation of COVID-19 and following up-to-date guidance from the CDC, Oneida County Health Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services while gathering insight from our local hospitals and medical community. The safety of all of our residents and those at-large throughout the community remain our top concern.

The Minocqua Police Department will be enacting a comprehensive plan that will help reduce the unnecessary risk of exposure to our employees as well as the public we serve.  In an effort to reduce the risk of unnecessary exposure to our officers and citizens, effective Tuesday March 17, 2020, calls for service that we respond to with face to face contact will change. We will implement a “modified report-taking process” to limit the amount of one-on-one interaction officers have with the public. In some cases, officers will take reports and statements via phone call instead of dispatching officers to gather information in-person. In the event Officers respond for face to face contact, safe practices such as maintaining a safe distance of six feet, will be enacted. 

This will NOT impact high-priority, emergency incidents. 

In the event you contact the police department to report an incident, you can expect to be asked some of the following questions to better assist our Officers and Medical personnel: 

  • Do you have a fever?
  • Chills?
  • Shortness of breath?
  • Persistent cough?
  • Any/new unusual respiratory problems (sneezing, wheezing, congestion, etc.)?
  • Travel in the past 14 days to China, Iran, Italy, Japan, or South Korea?
  • Travel on a cruise in the past 14 days?
  • Any close contact with confirmed COVID 19 patient(s) in the past 14 days?

The Minocqua Police Department must maintain a healthy, functioning workforce to be able to respond to priority calls and emergency situations. Therefore, based on the information provided by health officials, these steps have been taken to mitigate the risk of illness to our employees.  Make no mistake we are constantly monitoring this pandemic and as things change we will keep the community informed. There is no need to panic but we all should remain cautious.
