On February 1, 2015 at approximately 4:09 P.M., the Minocqua Police Department received a 9-1-1 call of a child in the water holding onto the ice in the channel between Lake Kawaguesaga and Lake Minocqua near the trestle in Minocqua, WI. Rescue efforts were immediately initiated. Officers from the Minocqua Police Department, Woodruff Police Department and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and observed a thirteen (13) year old male child that had fallen through the ice and was unable to get out of the water due to the thin ice in the immediate area. Officers worked together and were able to pull the child out of the water. In speaking with the child it was found that the child was operating a snowmobile in the area and had fallen through the thin ice. The child was transported by ambulance to the Howard Young Medical Center (HYMC) emergency room.
The Minocqua Police Department was assisted in the rescue of the child by the Woodruff Police Department, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and HYMC Ambulance Paramedics.
