State HWY 70 W. Burglaries

Since January 6, 2016, the Minocqua Police Department has responded to the report of several forced entries into residences located along the ST HWY 70 W corridor.  The forced entries span from the Minocqua area through areas of Lac Du Flambeau.  Items that were taken from some of the residences include numerous flat screen TVs, an ice auger and large amounts of money.  The Minocqua Police Department in cooperation with Lac Du Flambeau Tribal Police Department are currently following-up on several leads. 

 

Update February 5, 2016

On February 3, 2016, in a collaborative effort between Minocqua Police Department and Lac Du Flambeau Tribal Police Department, two persons of interest were identified in connection with the burglaries in the Minocqua and Lac Du Flambeau areas.  Three search warrants were conducted on residences associated with the persons of interest and several stolen items were recovered.  If you are a victim of the burglaries associated with these investigations, please contact the Minocqua and/or Lac Du Flambeau Tribal Police Departments and make arrangements to identify possible stolen items that belong to you.  Cooperative efforts continue between both Departments to resolve the investigations and recover additional stolen items associated with the burglaries.

 

Update February 25, 2016

On February 26, 2016, the Minocqua Police Department will be forwarding charges of burglary (12 counts each), theft of movable property (11 counts each), trespass to dwelling (12 counts each) and criminal damage to property (12 counts each) to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office on Joseph J Mitchell (23) and Robert J Smith Jr (33) of Lac Du Flambeau, WI for the burglaries which occurred in the Town of Minocqua, WI starting in late December 2015 and continuing throughout the month of January.  Charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and intentionally neglecting a child will also be forwarded to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office on Mitchell.  Mitchell and Smith Jr are currently being held in the Vilas County Jail on probation violations.  Lac Du Flambeau Tribal Police Department also referred charges of burglary to the Vilas County District Attorney’s Office on Mitchell and Smith for the burglaries which occurred in Lac Du Flambeau, WI.    

If you are a victim of the burglaries associated with these arrests, please contact the Minocqua and/or Lac Du Flambeau Tribal Police Departments and make arrangements to identify possible stolen items that have been recovered and belong to you. 

Cooperative efforts continue between both Departments to recover additional stolen items associated with the burglaries.  Anyone with information of this or other crimes are encouraged to report it to the Minocqua Police Department at (715) 356-3234 or the Lac Du Flambeau Tribal Police Department at (715) 588-7717.  Anyone choosing to remain anonymous may provide information to WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME (800-782-7463).  Rewards of up to $1000 are available for information leading to a conviction.
