MISSING PERSON FROM THE BEARSKIN TRAIL IN MINOCQUA, WI

At approximately 5:08 AM on July 9, 2021, the Minocqua Police Department responded to the Bearskin Trail near the intersection of Kawaga Road in Minocqua for the report of a 19-year-old missing person, Jack Edward Crabtree of Naperville, IL.  Upon arrival, officers immediately started search protocol.  Crabtree was located at approximately 9:58 AM walking on the Bearskin Trail near the intersection of Baker Lake Road in Minocqua, WI.

It is believed that Crabtree walked from the downtown Minocqua area in the early morning hours of July 9, 2021 in an attempt to return to his residence on Doolittle Road.  Crabtree lost his cell phone while walking the Bearskin Trail and attempted to locate it at that time.  Crabtree got turned around in the darkness, became lost and ended up sleeping on a chair on a deck at a residence along the Bearskin Trail.  Crabtree was located walking along the Bearskin by a citizen assisting in the search.  A unit from the search party responded to Crabtree’s location and transported him back to his residence on Doolittle Road where he was reunited with his family.

Assisting the Minocqua Police Department in the search for Crabtree were the Minocqua Fire and Rescue Department, Newbold Search and Rescue, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Howard Young Medical Center Medvac Unit (helicopter), and The Lakeland Times.

The Minocqua Police Department would like to express their gratitude for all involved in the search efforts which helped return Crabtree back to his family safely.
