On Saturday January 3, 2026 at 12:39PM the Minocqua Police Department responded to a vehicle vs snowmobile crash in the area of STH 70 and Morgan Rd. At the time of the initial report, the operator of the snowmobile was observed alert and talking with first responders and police officers. The snowmobile crossed STH 70 northbound in the area of Morgan Rd in front of an eastbound vehicle. This incident has already been reported by the Lakeland Times, the police incident number is MI26-000049.
The Minocqua Police department has since been notified by the Onieda County Medical Examiner’s office that the operator of the snowmobile has succumbed to his injures and has passed away. According to the Medical Examiner’s office, they were informed of this information by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office on January 18th.
The operator of the snowmobile was a 77-year-old male from Sheboygan Falls, WI. He was initially treated at Marshfield Clinic before being released to a rehabilitation center in Sheboygan. He was then transported back to an Aurora Hospital in Milwaukee. We do not have information on if next of kin has been notified.
We were informed that this is the first fatal snowmobile accident in Onieda county this season. The WI DNR will be conducting an investigation for this crash.
