Minocqua Police Department Investigation into LUHS Threat: June 1, 2023 Re:       Press Release Minocqua Police Department Investigation into LUHS Threat On May 30, 2023 at approximately 3:49 PM the Minocqua Police Department was informed of threatening graffiti in the student services men's restroom of Lakeland Union High School. In concern for the safety of the students and staff at the high school, on May 31, 2023 it was decided to cancel school to investigate the incident thoroughly.  It is important for everyone to understand we take these threats very seriously, and on behalf of the safety of the students and staff we will stand on the side of caution.  On June 1, 2023 the investigation continued and there was an increased law enforcement presence at school to ensure the safety of the students and staff on campus.  The school administration worked closely with the Minocqua Police Department to resolve this situation.  Several interviews were conducted to determine who was responsible for the graffiti.  At this time, the Minocqua Police Department has concluded the investigation involving the threatening graffiti that was written in the men’s restroom at LUHS.  Two juvenile male subjects were identified as the likely persons responsible for the wrongdoing.  As a result of the investigation, charges of making a terrorist threat – intimidation, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, and obstructing/resisting an officer – giving false information or non-physical resistance are being referred to Oneida County Department of Social Services.  Due to the perpetrators being minors, the details of the juvenile referrals are not being released at this time.  We would like to thank the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Woodruff Police Department, LUHS students and parents, school faculty and staff along with our communities, for the hard work and information sharing which contributed to the conclusion of this investigation.   Contact Person:             David J Jaeger, Chief of Police                                                             (715) 356-3234                                                             [email protected]   ###
